Ever wonder what happens after you flush?
We invite you to visit our Wastewater Treatment Center for our annual Open House! The Open House is a free, family-friendly event on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at the District’s Wastewater Treatment Center, 5003 Walnut Avenue in Downers Grove. This is a unique behind-the-scenes look at how your local wastewater treatment plant works from start to finish!
Tour our wastewater treatment center
Guided tours led by the District’s wastewater specialists will take visitors through each stage of the wastewater treatment process. Tours are approximately 60 minutes and include about ¾ mile of walking, primarily outdoors on paved surfaces.

Groups are encouraged to schedule a tour in advance by calling 630-969-0664 or by completing the form above. If you or someone in your party requires special accommodations, please contact the District in advance so we can best assist you.
Touch-A-Truck, interactive exhibits & displays and refreshments!
Visitors can also learn what should and shouldn’t be flushed, speak with biosolids experts, explore the Touch-a-Truck area, and enjoy complimentary refreshments.
