Mark Your Calendar: Open House – Oct. 3

The Downers Grove Sanitary District is excited to welcome the community to its annual Open House on Saturday, October 3, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wastewater Treatment Center, 5003 Walnut Avenue, Downers Grove.

This free, family-friendly event offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at how your local wastewater treatment plant operates. It’s a great opportunity to learn how the District protects public health and the environment every day.

Guided tours led by the District’s wastewater specialists will take guests through each stage of the wastewater treatment process. Visitors can also learn what should and shouldn’t be flushed, speak with biosolids experts, explore the Touch-a-Truck area, and enjoy complimentary refreshments.

Most of the tour is walking outdoors and visitors should dress accordingly for outdoor weather conditions. Tours are good for scout groups looking for merit badges or students seeking extra credit. Groups are encouraged to schedule a tour in advance by calling 630-969-0664, emailing acaballero@dgsd.org or submitting an Open House Tour Request to schedule a tour.
